Councils made 29,000 duty of care inspections in a year

Defra's fly-tipping statistics for England, updated on 25 February 2026, report that duty of care inspections by local authorities rose 9 per cent in 2024/25, from 27,000 to 29,000, and were 5 per cent of the 572,000 enforcement actions taken against fly-tipping that year.
