£480 for a householder whose waste was dumped by somebody else

Canterbury City Council reported on 16 June 2025 that a woman had pleaded guilty at Margate Magistrates' Court to failing in her duty of care to pass her waste to an authorised waste carrier. She had given it to an unregistered waste collector who dumped it in Whitstable in April 2023. She was fined £200, with an £80 surcharge and £200 of costs. The council said it was never able to establish who actually dumped the load.
