DIY waste has been free within set limits since December 2023
The Controlled Waste (England and Wales) (Amendment) (England) Regulations 2023 came into force on 31 December 2023. They rewrote entry 9 of Schedule 1 to the 2012 Regulations so that construction and demolition waste is treated as household waste for section 51 purposes where four conditions are met: the occupiers did the work themselves, nobody was paid for it, a single visit brings under 100 litres in two 50 litre bags or one article no bigger than 2000mm by 750mm by 700mm, and the household makes no more than four visits in any four weeks.
